Rad Reading- October

This month I read The summer I turned pretty by Jenny Han

A fifth teen year old teenager named Isabel Conklin who goes by belly is just a normal girl who goes to the cousins beach house every summer. She has spent every summer there since she was born. She thinks of the beach house as a magical place. Her mom Laurel was best friends with Susannah who belly thought of as her second mom. She always felt a special connection between them. Susannah owned the beach house and had two kids of her own. Two boys named Conrad and Jeremiah Conrad was the oldest; he was seventeen and Jeremiah was sixteen. Jeremiah was one of belly’s best friend. Conrad and Jeremiah were also friends with belly’s older brother Stevan who was seventeen. Belly also loved going to the beach house to see a special someone. She has had a crush on Conrad ever since she was ten but all Conrad saw her as was just a little sister. Every summer the boys would always leave belly out and never wanted her to hang out with them. But this summer was different, belly finally hit puberty and looked a lot different than last summer. She got her braces off ; got rid of her glasses and wore contacts. When she was near the beach house all she smelled was the salty air and remembered all the incredible memories that they have made every summer.
The reason why I like this book is because it’s about friendship, a little bit of romance, family, and coming of age and those are the kind of books I always enjoy. I also liked how Susannah always made people feel welcomed and I also liked how she was super nice to everyone.
My favorite character in the book is Jeremiah because he’s nice and he treats belly like his own little sister. In chapter seventeen Jeremiah offers belly to teach her how to drive stick when the other boys were too lazy to teach her.
My favorite quote from the book is “the air tasted just the same, smelled just the same. The wind making my hair feel sticky, the salty sea breeze, all of it just felt right. Like it had been waiting for me to get here.” This is my favorite quote because it reminds me of when my family and I go to Mexico every summer.

Awesome Opportunity

If I could trade places with a famous person for the day it would be Simone Biles. Simone Biles is the best gymnast in the world. Which is one of the reasons why I would want to trade places with her she is so good at gymnastics and can do basically all the gymnastics tricks you can think of. If you watch her preform but you don’t even know who she is just by watching her you’ll know she’s the best gymnast in the world. Another reason is because she is really pretty. And lastly she’s rich. Since she’s the best in the world she has a net worth of 16 million dollars. If I had that kind of money I would build a gymnastics gym and teach the class. And that’s why I would want to be Simone Biles for a day.

The Perfect Day

It would be a dream to have a perfect day and it would go like this. I would sleep in and wake up at ten. When I wake up my mom would make me my favorite breakfast. I will go to the kitchen and on the table I will find avocado toast with bacon. I will have no school since school usually ruins my day. Then I will invite my closest friends to hang out. We would go Irvine spectrum and spend two hours there then we will go eat at Tutto fresco. After we’re finished we will go to the beach for another two hours. We will swim and do gymnastics there. After we’ll go to the movies. We would probably get kicked out since my friends can’t stop laughing when we’re supposed to be quiet but since it’s the perfect day we wouldn’t get kicked out. Then I would go home and maybe I’ll watch another movie on my laptop then go to sleep. And that would be my perfect day.

Two Forever

If I could be any age forever I would want to be two years old. Two is a good age because I would be a baby and wouldn’t have to do much. For example I could sleep for as long as I want without having to wake up early for school which I hate. And I wouldn’t have to do chores around the house which I also don’t like. Another reason is because I would have more energy. Little kids usually have more energy than adults and it would be useful to use my energy on gymnastics. In gymnastics you do need a lot of energy so it would be really useful. And my last reason is because I would get carried most of the time. When I was two my mom and dad would carry me everywhere. I was able to walk but my parents would take good care of me so they would carry me most of the time. And that’s why two would be the best age!

It was early July when we were going on vacation to Ixtapa, Mexico. We were heading to my aunts house so we can all go to the airport in one car. Once we finally arrived to my aunts house I was so excited. We were taking my aunts big RV so we can all fit since 12 people were coming. It was a two hour drive to the airport so my cousins and I were just using our electronics and talking. Once we got to the airport we all hugged my dad goodbye since he couldn’t come. We went through airport security and all the airport check in’s and I felt like it took forever. I was sitting in the seats where the boarding gates were and after what felt like a million years we finally got on the plane. I sat with my brother and my sister and after the plane took off I knocked out, I was so tired. I woke up ten minutes before the plane landed and when we got off the plane it was so hot. I was walking outside and to go inside and it felt humid; I was wearing a hoodie so it made it even more hot. Once we got our luggage we got a taxi and went to have breakfast. After breakfast we headed to the house we were renting. Once we got there we went to our rooms and unpacked. The boys shared a room that had two queen beds, two couches, two big closets, and a TV. My mom and little sister Sophie shared a room. And my aunt and uncle got the master bedroom which had a king bed, closet, bathroom, and a TV. I got a room with my sister Daisy which had two twin beds and a big closet. Our room was so basic compared to the boys room we thought it was so unfair that they got a better room than us. After we all jumped into the pool since it was so hot. The view was amazing it was so pretty; there were so many palm trees and the beach was just downstairs. After we got out of the pool I was so tired from traveling that I knocked out on my bed. Then my Daisy woke me up so we can go see the sunset I was so tired but I still went with her. We ran down the stairs then another flight of stairs and we went to the back yard we’re my cousins were playing soccer the grass was good for soccer and gymnastics. We ran down the stairs and we went towards the rocks and just sat there watching the view. After we got dinner and had a late night swim with everyone. Then we all headed to bed and had an awesome week there.

RAD READING-SEPTEMBER

This month I read It ends with us by Colleen Hoover

A collage graduate Lily Bloom moves to Boston for a fresh start after she finally leaves her abusive home that nobody knew about except for Atlas Corrigan. Atlas was a homeless teenager who was eighteen when Lily was fifth-teen and Lily helped him out by giving him food and secretly letting him sleep in her room since Atlas used to sleep in a abandoned house that was really cold so Lily would secretly help him out. After helping him out they both fall in love with each other and they date for a while until her dad finds out and it doesn’t go well. Not long after she’s in Boston her father dies. The day after the funeral Lily is in a rooftop in Boston and she meets a guy named Ryle Kankaid who she ends up dating little does she know that he is just as abusive as her dad was. One night when Lily, Ryle, and her mother are getting dinner at a new restaurant Lily sees Atlas and she’s shocked but she doesn’t tell Ryle. Then Lily and Ryle get married. Later on Lily realizes how abusive Ryle is and how he always takes his anger out on her and she starts to have second thoughts about continuing to be with him. And nobody knows except for Atlas. Then after two major accidents Ryle abuses her again because Ryle found the journals where Lilly wrote about Atlas when they were teenagers. And after that Lily gave up that was the last straw for Lily; she called Atlas for help. When she’s at the hospital she finds out that she’s pregnant and it wasn’t planned. Months later she keeps the baby; divorces Ryle and she has a happy ending. But there is a second book.

I recommend this book because it’s super good and really intense. It is a little sad sometimes but there is some really good parts. Of course like mostly every book the main character does struggle but the ending worth it. There is some quotes that are really good and hit hard which makes the book better. The beginning, middle, and end are all so good but the ending is awesome.

My favorite quote from the book is a quote from Ryle when they first met and he says “I feel like everyone fakes who they really are, when deep down we’re all equal amounts of screwed up. Some are just better at hiding it than others.” This is my favorite quote because it feel like it’s relatable.

My favorite character is Lily Bloom because she’s warm hearted and cares about people. She’s warm hearted because in the last sentence in the book she tells Ryle she she wants a divorce because he’s too abusive and after that she says “my mother went through it. I went through it. I’ll be damned if I allow my daughter go through it.” I kiss her on the forehead and make her a promise. “It stops here. With me and you. It ends with us.”
